Mural of Anthony Bourdain

Mural by Jeff Henriquez

Anthony Bourdain — chef, author, TV host and world traveler — was beloved by many who appreciated his inclusive, humanitarian view of food and how it brings people together. Bourdain was a major inspiration for us as well, that’s why a mural of Bourdain has a prominent place in our dining room.

Bourdain’s death by suicide was shocking to his legions of fans. He seemed to have it all. Yet he had openly struggled with addiction and depression his entire life. Bourdain Day is an annual event that was started by his friends to celebrate his birthday, all the wonderful awareness he brought to the food world, and to highlight the need for greater access to mental health services.

To celebrate Bourdain Day, Sandwich Bar will be hosting our second annual “Negronis for Tony” an event featuring his favorite cocktail. Negronis will be $5 all day and the money from all sales will go to HealthNet of Rock County to support their free mental health services. Last year we raised over $3,000. So come join us for a drink, a sandwich, take a selfie with Bourdain, and let’s celebrate a life well lived. As is typical, we will be open from 11 am - 2:30 pm, closed 2:30 - 4 pm, and reopening at 4-8 pm.
